SALEM — John “David” Hargrave, 59, of Salem was called home on Saturday, April 14, 2018 following a lengthy illness. He was born on Thursday, Jan. 1, 1959 in Newport News to John Howard Hargrave and the late Joyce Ann McVey Hargrave.

John was a loving husband and father. He worked for Phoenix Services for the past 11 years. 

In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Lula Hargrave; sister, Sherry L. Threatt; uncle, Bill Hargrave; and cousin, Danny Hargrave.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Lois A. Whittaker Hargrave of Salem; son, Shane William Hargrave of Newport News; a sister, Phyllis Cornett of Smithfield; stepchildren, Billy Wilson of Roanoke and Alisa Roenberry of Kimball W.Va.; stepgrandson, Tyler Rotenberry of Kimball; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. 

In keeping with his wishes, he will be cremated and inurned in the family cemetery on a very special day, his wedding anniversary on July 22, 2018.
