The Virginia Department of Transportation recently changed from red arrows to red balls at the Benn’s Church intersection.
Motorists turning right onto Benn’s Church Boulevard off Brewer’s Neck Boulevard can now proceed even if the light has red balls, according to VDOT.
A VDOT traffic study showed motorists had enough room to see traffic and make a decision on whether it was safe to proceed, according to VDOT spokesperson Nina Napolitano.
Previously, the right turn signal was marked with red arrows and a “No turn on Red” signs, she said.
The signal now has red balls.
Turning right on red arrows is a traffic violation and last year, that caused some confusion at the new Benn’s Church intersection.
