NEWPORT NEWS – Frances Mae Cofield Abbott, 82, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2018. She was the daughter of the late Eric and Lydia Atkins Cofield, and granddaughter of the late George Vernon and Bessie Mae Atkins, all of Isle of Wight County.

Mrs. Abbott is survived by three children; her daughter, Laura Abbott Matthews and her husband Rick of Hampton; her sons, James Lester Abbott, III and his wife Kris of Chester, and Stephen Abbott of South Pittsburg, Tenn.; two grandsons, who affectionately knew her as “2-Moo,” Ricky and Thomas Matthews; and a granddaughter, Aubrey Mae Abbott; two brothers, John and Richard; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, James L. Abbott Jr., and a brother, George.

Visitation is Monday, June 18, 6-7:30 p.m. at W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Peninsula Memorial Park.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, 4669 South Blvd., #103, Virginia Beach, VA  23452.
