The Flatland Bluegrass Band will return to the Gazebo Stage Friday at 8 p.m.
The band last performed during the all-afternoon bluegrass tribute held at the Times in April. Prior to that, the band had played for the Summer Concert Series in 2014.
Flatland was organized in 2001. Current members are Randy Grigg, Karen Grigg, Fred Staggs and Jim Andersen.
The series will continue July 13 with a group new to Smithfield. Nu-Blu hails from Siler, located in the foothills of North Carolina. The quartet is true to its roots, performing ballads and other music that have a distinctive mountain flavor.
The Summer Concert Series is sponsored by The Smithfield Times and the Isle of Wight Arts League. Concerts are free to the public and are underwritten with private donations.
