Vocalist Karen Johnson will bring the “sounds of Motown” to the Gazebo Stage Friday at 8 p.m.
Johnson, a Portsmouth native who grew up in Chesapeake, majored in music at Elizabeth City State University. She has performed in a wide range of genres ranging from classical to gospel, and for Friday’s performance will focus on rhythm and blues. Johnson performs with a keyboard accompanist.
Johnson’s performance is part of the Summer Concert Series, which is sponsored by The Smithfield Times and the Isle of Wight Arts League.
Next week’s concert will feature singer/songwriter Angela Easterling of South Carolina.
