Betty Jo Carnes Hendrix

Betty Jo Carnes Hendrix, 80, of Ivor passed away on Aug. 8, 2018.   She was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Harry Joe Hendrix.  She is survived by her five children, Eddie Hendrix (Mary), Kim MacKinnon (Mike), Scott Hendrix, Chris Hendrix (Sherri) and Susan Tuck (Ranger); 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and by her brothers, Stanley Carnes and Larry Carnes; and beloved companion, her dog “Annie.” 

Betty Jo wore many hats being a devoted Navy wife while raising five kids and holding various jobs while doing so.  Betty Jo was a master gardener, earning a diamond pin.  She was a very active member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and Bible studies, and participated in many other volunteer activities. Betty Jo and Joe were founding members of Boy Scout Troop 7 in Smithfield. She distributed “Joe’s Baskets” in honor of her husband, to some special folks that needed a hand.  

Her family would like to thank all persons involved in her health care, especially the great support of Pastor Billy and Pastor Jones and the wonderful church members. A special thanks to the Heartland Hospice group for their caring service.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, Aug. 10, 10 a.m. in Mill Swamp Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 9, 6-7 p.m. at the church.  In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mill Swamp Baptist Church Improvement Fund, c/o Phyllis Sullivan 6329 Mill Swamp Rd.
