Kevin Paul Ayer

Kevin Paul Ayer, 59, of Smithfield, passed away on Nov. 30, 2018. A U.S. Navy veteran, Kevin was a locksmith by trade and a member of the Carrollton Kiwanis and Greater Hilton Kiwanis, he loved Nascar, fishing, drag racing, in-line speed skating with his sons, go-kart racing, bowling, golf and playing cards.  Known for his adventurous spirit, kind soul and willingness to help anyone. Kevin always had a smile and kept his sense of humor till the end.  

Kevin is survived by his wife of 34 years Katherine Jean Ayer; son, Joshua Benton Ayer; He was the son of Beverly Jean Saulnier and the late George Edward Ayer Jr.  He is also survived by his sisters, Erin Maloney (Jason Smith), Megan Shaffer (Gary), Sharon Howe; brothers, Robert Ayer, Chris Ayer (Ellen), Brian Ayer, Ryan Hurd, Tessa Hill, Michael Hurd, Scott Hurd (Christine); sister-in-law, Debbie and Edward Holmes, Wanda Brim, Ian and Justine and Veronica Brim; mother-in-law, Opal Brim; stepfather, Neil Hurd and a host of nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Chad Ayer and father-in-law Oscar Brim.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Dec. 6, 6:30 p.m. at Parkview Baptist, 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News.  The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield. Online condolences may be registered at www.littlesfuneralhome.com.
