Jean Fletcher Yeoman

RALEIGH, NC — Jean Fletcher Yeoman, 97, of Cary, N.C. passed away on Dec. 26, 2018 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh, N.C.

 She was the daughter of the late Rev. Wade H. Fletcher and Daisy Kibble Fletcher and was born on Jan. 8, 1921 in Cheriton, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin W. Yeoman; her sisters, Marian Sturgis and Dorothy McCready; her brother, Wade H. Fletcher Jr.; daughter, Beretta Yeoman Goodwin; granddaughter, Kimberly Yeoman Mullis; and great-grandson, Eric Wilson Laughrey.

Jean lived in Smithfield for 66 years. She enjoyed substitute teaching and was a longstanding member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Jean was an active member of The Woman’s Club of Smithfield and the Garden Club, where she devoted much of her time serving on committees and in leadership roles locally and statewide. She enjoyed art, painting, and drawing, reading and discussing books, gardening, and made the most amazing yeast rolls. After moving to Cary, N.C. in 2012 to live with her son and his wife, she was able to enjoy spending time with many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchild and the flowers and birds in the area. They gave her much pleasure.

Jean is survived by her son, Benjamin Wilson Yeoman Jr. (Patricia) of Cary, N.C.; seven grandchildren, Brian Yeoman (Kathy) of Florida, Stephen Banks of Washington, Lori Roach (Ronnie), Lisa Monette, Chris Yeoman and Aimee Tremaine (Troy), all of North Carolina, Mark Yeoman (Lisa), of Georgia; 10 great-grandchildren and one one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at her son’s home in Cary on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2-5 p.m. Memorial services will be at Little’s Funeral Home in Smithfield on Jan. 19 at 1p.m. with burial to follow at St. Luke’s Cemetery in Smithfield.
