Marion Haverty Hamm

Marion Haverty Hamm of Richmond died on Dec. 25, 2018.  Born in Smithfield, on Jan. 27, 1929 to the late William Selden Haverty and Edna Dean Haverty (née Stringfield).  Mrs. Hamm is predeceased by her husband, the Rev. John Madison Hamm of Winston-Salem, N.C.  She is most recently predeceased by her sister, Aileen Llewelyn Haverty of Richmond; and also predeceased by her sister, Anita Dean Haverty, of Chester, and her brother William Selden Haverty Jr. of Camden, N.J.

Mrs. Hamm is survived by her brother, James Elliot Haverty and his wife, Barbara A. Haverty (née Byrum) of Suffolk; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a great-great niece.

Mrs. Hamm graduated from Smithfield High School in 1947 and graduated from Mary Washington Women’s College (now the University of Mary Washington), in Fredericksburg, in 1951.  She married the Rev. John M. Hamm at Trinity Methodist Church in 1953. They lived throughout the state as he served the Virginia Conference of the United Methodist Church until his death in 1982.

A private memorial service and burial officiated by the Rev. Derek Koolman will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Smithfield.
