In recent years, he settled in Smithfield. Here he found many devoted friends in the welcoming communities of the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Luter Family YMCA. It was a great joy to him to be honored as the Y’s 2017 Volunteer of the Year.

A life-long reader, he also enjoyed guns, fishing, cooking, raising flowers and spending time with friends. He was an avid football and NASCAR enthusiast.

He is survived by two sisters, Sister Beatrice Hall, SNJM, of Albany, N.Y. and Mary Ellis from Norwich, Conn., as well as his nieces and nephews Phillip, Mary Elaine, Steven and Teresa, Ashley and Alyson.

Friends and parishioners celebrated his life at a Memorial Mass at Church of the Good Shepherd on March 1, 2019. Beatrice and Mary are deeply grateful for the extraordinary care and kindness shown Eddie by so many devoted friends.

Hoping that some good would come from his years of medical struggles, Eddie donated his body for medical research.

In his memory, donations may be made to Church of the Good Shepherd, 300 Smithfield Blvd, Smithfield, VA 23430 or Luter Family YMCA 259 James St., Smithfield, VA 23430.
