Georgia M. Shivers

Georgia M. Shivers, 105, transitioned from this life on Friday July 5, 2019 at her residence.  Georgia was born on March 15, 1914 in Isle of Wight Country to the late Pembrook Moton and Mattie Diggs Moton.   She was the wife of the late Leslie Roy Shivers Sr. From their union they were blessed with fourteen children.

At an early age Georgia was baptized and joined Little Zion Baptist Church where she remained faithful until her death.  Georgia worked for many years cleaning houses and doing various job until she went to work at Smithfield Packing, and remain there for 25 years.

On June 2, 2019 she was awarded the First Matriarch Award of Little Zion Baptist Church.  Georgia also was awarded a plaque from President Barack Obama, the Town of Smithfield and the Isle of Wight County Board of Supervisors. She also received a certificate from the Governor of Virginia, Ralph Northam, and Recognition from Senator Louis Lucas, Senator Bobby Scott and the Mayor of Smithfield, Cater Williams.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Leslie Shivers Jr. (Betty) and Wilbert Shivers (Yvonne); four daughters Evangeline Judkins, Shirley Bailey, Patricia Spratley and Margaret Parker; 58 grandchildren; 105 grandchildren; 175 great-great-grandchildren; 78 great-great-great-grandchildren; four great-great-great-great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 13, 11 a.m. at Little Zion Baptist Church.  Viewing will take place on Friday, July 12, from 4-7 p.m. at Shivers Funeral Chapel. For more information, please visit www.shiversfuneralchapel.com.
