James Gwynn “Jimmy” Hollingsworth

James Gwynn “Jimmy” Hollingsworth, 91, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, Sept. 1, surrounded by his family.  Jimmy was born on Dec. 3, 1927, in Hopewell to William Henry Hollingsworth and Edith Mae Whitley.  Jimmy served in the United States Army, working overseas in the Company H 26th Infantry. When he returned, Jimmy completed the requirements of apprenticeship through the United States Navy at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years. Jimmy served as deacon at Smithfield Assembly of God and was recently a member of Churchland Assembly of God. He had also been a member of the Carrollton Ruritan Club. He enjoyed woodworking as a hobby, often making furniture and toys for his loved ones. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, whose faith, kind nature, humor and service to others made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 68 years, Cenia Wyatt Hollingsworth; brothers, David Hollingsworth and Doug Hollingsworth; sisters, Ruby Baines, Holly Cooper, Susan Robinson, and Carol Lucas-Ashby; his three children, Lynn Morgan (Ken), Steve Hollingsworth (Marie) and Jeff Hollingsworth (Amy); and grandchildren Josh, Jacob, Justin, Martin, Nancy, Jonathan and Emily; and their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by brothers, William Hollingsworth, Gary Hollingsworth, and Richard Hollingsworth; and sisters Louise Payne and Lois Coile.

Family will receive friends at Little’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. A celebration of life service will follow at 11 a.m. Burial will take place afterward at St. Luke’s Cemetery.
