•Applications for the Delta Kappa Gamma-Gamma Epilson Vaughan scholarship are due Friday, April 5. Graduating seniors who attend school or live in Isle of Wight or Surry counties, and are pursuing a career in education, are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications are available from the guidance offices of Isle of Wight Academy, Surry, Smithfield and Windsor high schools. •The Surry Concerned Citizens meeting for March 26 has been cancelled.
•The Isle of Wight Republican Party mass meeting for Monday, March 30 is cancelled. A new date will be determined. Go to www.iowgop.com for more information.
•Dominion Energy has suspended disconnections for nonpayment in response to COVID-19.
•Gov. Ralph Northam has issued a series of actions to address COVID-19, to include suspending enforcement on motor vehicle inspections for 60 days. For a complete list of actions, visit virginia.gov/coronavirus.
•All E-ZPass Virginia walk-in service centers have closed through April 1. Many functions can be completed online at ezpassva.com. Transponders are available at the following local retail outlet: Taylor’s Do It Center, 3235 Bridge Road, Suffolk.
•The Smithfield Wine and Brew Fest for April 18 has been cancelled. Smithfield VAEvents is able to offer a partial refund. Go to www.SmithfieldVAEvents.com for more details.
•Isle of Wight County has cancelled its March 24 Planning Commission meeting because there are no public hearing items and no pressing official business.
•The Lenten fish fry dinners at Good Shepherd Catholic Church have been cancelled.
•The April 4 walking tour of Windsor Castle has been cancelled.
•The Red Cross is running low on blood donations, as well as locations to hold a drive due to the virus, so Smithfield Baptist Church, 100 Wainwright Dr., is hosting a blood drive Thursday, March 19, noon to 6 p.m. To make an appointment or for more information, visit RedCrossBlood.org. •Camp Community College has cancelled its commencement ceremonies, based on guidance from Virginia Community Colleges. Individual colleges will have the opportunity to hold some sort of recognition at a later date.
•All Isle of Wight County courts are closed through April 6, and all non-essential, non-emergency court proceedings in all circuit and district courts are suspended and all deadlines are extended.
•Blackwater Regional Libraries, including Carrollton, Smithfield, Windsor, Surry and Claremont, are closed through Saturday, March 28. Staff can assist patrons by phone. The library will offer curbside service for patrons to pick up requested information on Wednesday, March 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call to let staff know you are coming. The libraries have external WiFi available and electronic materials are still available.
•The town of Smithfield has suspended all programs at the Joseph W. Luter Jr. sports complex due to the COVID-19 situation.
•The Smithfield Center is closed. The Smithfield Center staff will work with clients to cancel or reschedule an event. For more information, call 356-9939. Events and meetings that were scheduled there — the Schoolhouse Museum, Crimeline, Smithfield Woman’s Club and the JROTC banquet are cancelled.
•VDOT asks that drivers and passengers on the Jamestown-Scotland ferry remain in their vehicles for the duration of the trip. The Powhatan, which has the largest vehicle capacity, will operate during rush hour; and crews will monitor and respond to travel needs as necessary.
•Camp Community College is closed to students and visitors through April 3, and classes will be taught remotely. All other functions of the college will remain operational, but ask that business be conducted by either phone, email or by the website, www.pdc.edu.
•The Carrollton Volunteer Fire Department’s spring barbecue fundraiser has been postponed. A new date will be set when the crisis has passed. All purchased tickets will be honored.
•The Benn’s United Methodist Church Spaghetti Fest scheduled for March 21 has been cancelled.
•The Sundays at Four concert with The Botetourt Chamber Singers, scheduled for April 19, has been cancelled due to concerns about the coronavirus.
•American Legion Post 49 in Smithfield has cancelled its Bingo games for March 26. Organizers will reevaluate after March 26.
•The Arts Center @ 319 in Smithfield is closed through March 31.
•The Luter Family YMCA in Smithfield is closed until March 29.
•The 2020 Virginia Agritourism Conference scheduled for March 30 – April 1 at The Smithfield Center has been cancelled.
•Isle of Wight 4-H programs are cancelled, but camp applications are still being processed.
