Smithfield’s Gordmans store is going out of business.

Parent company Stage Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May.

The store, located at 1284 Smithfield Shopping Plaza was one of hundreds of company locations that closed temporarily in late March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Like many others, our business was significantly impacted by COVID-19,” Stage Stores President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Glazer said in a May 10 statement. “We temporarily closed all of our stores as we have worked to manage through this challenging environment. Despite all of our efforts, we have been unable to obtain necessary financing to continue operating as an independent business.”

If a buyer is found, Glazer said the liquidation process will be halted “at certain locations.”

The company did not respond to multiple communications sent to the company’s public relations office over the course of the last six weeks seeking more information about the Smithfield location.
