American Legion Post 49 of Smithfield installed its officers for the 2020-21 Legion Year on July 7 at its first monthly meeting since the start of the pandemic. The post commander for this year will be Jerry Starling, who moves up from 2nd vice commander. Starling is eager to lead the post as it deals with these uncertain times and further enhances its support to veterans and the local community.  Starling will be supported by Vice Commanders Matt Street (1st Vice), Ron Fravel (2nd Vice) and Lee Stevenson (3rd Vice). Charlie More continues as post chaplain, Pat Connolly as finance officer, and Bob Hannon, who steps down from commander, as adjutant. Frank Correia and Luke Lodovico are post sergeants at arms.
