A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Surry County and northern Isle of Wight County, according to the National Weather Service.

The warning is in place until 10:30 p.m. Hazards from the storm could include 60-mile-per-hour wind gusts and nickel-sized hail, the warning stated.

Residents should expect damage to trees and power lines as the storm moves through.
