High water affecting roads in IW, Surry
Ongoing heavy rain has left roads in Isle of Wight and Surry counties impassable due to high water.
Isle of Wight and Surry were under flash flood warnings as of Friday morning.
In Isle of Wight, officials urged “extreme caution” on Friday morning. Some of the roads affected by high water include Nike Park Road, Reynolds Drive, Smith’s Neck Boulevard, Scott’s Factory, Route 460 at Route 258, Route 460 at Ecella Road near Zuni, Walters Highway, Carrsville Highway and Jenkins Mill Road.
Several high-water hazards have been reported throughout Surry County, Ray Phelps, the county’s chief of emergency management, said in an announcement. Areas of concern as of Friday morning were the Hollybush/Gilpark Road area, Route 10 at VDOT, Rocky Bottom at the swamp, Carsley at Route 31 and Rolfe Highway at Smiths Fort.
Surry is also under a coastal flood watch through Monday. “Travel with caution and when you see high water turn around, don’t drown,” Phelps said.
