Annabelle Gwaltney Whitehead

Annabelle Gwaltney Whitehead, 82, widow of William Leland “Bill” Whitehead Jr., passed away Oct. 27, 2020, in her home. Born on July 25, 1938, in Smithfield, she was the daughter of the late William Dudley Gwaltney Jr. and Eunice Bell Stephenson Gwaltney and was also predeceased by her brother, William Stephenson “Steve” Gwaltney.

Annabelle was a graduate of Smithfield High School and attended Longwood College. She was a librarian at Walter Cecil Rawls Library in Courtland and a member of Courtland United Methodist Church.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Linda W. Pittman and her husband, Wilmer; her son, Leonard G. Whitehead and his wife, Leslie; five grandchildren, Dudley, Ryan (Amanda) and Peyton Pittman and Kelsey and Kristen Whitehead; and one great-grandchild, Thomas James Pittman.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020, in Riverside Cemetery in Courtland with the Rev. Bill McClung Jr. officiating. The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Courtland United Methodist Church.
