‘Sassy’ furniture store opens

Ivor native Megan Bracey Demsko has always hated getting rid of perfectly good furniture.
“Just add a little paint and a little elbow grease and it gives it a whole new look,” she says.
So, when she and her husband, Blake, both got laid off from their dental jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the couple, in Megan’s words, took a “leap of faith” and opened their own furniture refurbishing business in the nearby town of Windsor.
The couple has been painting furniture for a few years, but only for their own use. In February, Blake and Megan began consigning their wares at Faded Cottage, an antiques store that opened in downtown Ivor in February and “we just fell in love,” Megan said. In May, the couple secured a space in the Windsor Plaza shopping center near where Megan’s father-in-law, Dr. Harold Demsko, runs his dental practice and opened The Sassy Sisters. The store is named for Blake and Megan’s two daughters, Lily Grace and Bracey Mae.
Megan still works part-time for her father-in-law two days a week, but with family and friends backing the new business venture, “we’ve taken the leap and haven’t looked back,” she said.
“We absolutely love doing the rustic farmhouse style furniture,” Megan said.
But the couple has expanded into other styles too, and refurbishing customers’ pieces. They’re planning an open house from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 5.
“We have our talented vendors that will already be set up in the store … so many fun things planned for our opening day,” Megan said.
Cherish Thyme Photography will take Christmas pictures at no charge to customers on opening day, and there will be a raffle that will include a gift certificate to The Sassy Sisters and more.
