Sara Rachel Jones, age 80, of Ivor, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Edna Mae Wells and Clarence E. Crocker. She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis E. Crocker Sr.
Mrs. Jones was a native of Isle of Wight County and a member of Mill Swamp Baptist Church. Before retiring, she worked for the Isle of Wight County Public School system for 37 years driving a school bus and serving students in the cafeterias. Outside of work, for many years she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, fishing in the James River, camping, crocheting, gardening and canning vegetables and fruits, making fruit jellies, jams and preserves, and visiting the Great Smoky Mountains.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband of more than 64 years, Robert Earl Jones; sister, Fannie Mae Britt, of Dendron; brother, Clarence Wilson Crocker (Betty), of Ivor; two sons, Robert Theodore Jones, of Ivor and David Earl Jones (Deborah), of Windsor; two daughters, Janet Leah Jones of Ivor and Melissa Jones, of Ivor; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Billy Gardner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the R.W. Baker & Co. Wakefield Chapel. Condolences may be posted at RWBakerFH.com.
