Mary Alberta “Berta” Beckner Dixon, 89, of Smithfield, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2021.

She was the daughter of the late Leonard Theodore Beckner and Lucille Virginia Cash Beckner and stepfather, William P. Taylor. She is survived by her daughters, Debra Saunders (McClenny}, Elizabeth “Beth” Jones (Tommy) and Carol Skinner (Rhae); grandchildren, Brittany Phippins Meis and Tyler Thomas Jones; great-grandson, Maverick Dixon Meis; sisters, Dorothy “Dot” Morris (Fred) and Lena Mae Hostetter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Smithfield Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on the Bereavement and Kitchen committees as well serving in the church nursery for more than 40 years. She was a member of The Eastern Star, where she served as a past Worthy Matron, and The Woman’s Club of Smithfield, where was honored as “Woman of the Year.” She was known for the top seller of their annual Smithfield Calendar.
