Severe thunderstorm warning in effect through 5:30

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Smithfield, northern Isle of Wight County and central Suffolk.
The agency warns a storm capable of producing 60 mile-per-hour wind gusts and quarter-size hail has been sighted on radar moving east near Smithfield at 20 mph. Another has been sighted on radar over the King’s Fork and downtown areas of Suffolk moving east at 15 mph.
Minor damage to vehicles is possible, as is wind damage to trees and power lines. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building, the NWS advises.
The warning will remain in effect through 5:30 p.m.
