Rev. Jarvis M. Hearn, Jr. passed away on April 6, 2021, age 90, from complications due to Covid-19.

Jarvis received his education at Mars Hill University, The University of Richmond, and the Southeast Baptist Theological Seminary. He was a Southern Baptist pastor at churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina from 1956 to 1967. In 1967, the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention approved his appointment as a missionary to the deaf in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Jarvis ended his career as Director of Partnership and Missions/Telecommunications Department of the Tennessee Baptist Convention until his retirement in 1995.

After retirement, Jarvis acted as a temporary supply pastor to many churches in the Tidewater area. He was musically talented playing multiple instruments and singing. He was an active Ham radio operator, previously held a private pilot’s license, and volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol and the Coast Guard.

Jarvis was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Betty Barnes Hearn, son J. Mark Hearn, his parents Jarvis M. and Frances H. Hearn, and brother Ronald A. Hearn. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Karla J. Hearn, son Dana A. Hearn and extended family and friends.
