The Independence Day weekend will be marked with two fireworks shows as well as downtown music and fun.

The first fireworks show will take place in Smithfield beginning at 9:30 p.m. Friday. The display will shoot off from Clontz Park in downtown Smithfield, with great viewing from the Smithfield Station bridge and along the river.

The fun gets started earlier in the evening, though, with the first concert of the summer concert series. The Forte Jazz Band will play at the Times Gazebo at 228 Main St. beginning at 7 p.m. The concert is free, and folks are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Leading up to the concert, more than a dozen shops and restaurants in the immediate area will be open until 7 p.m., so folks can grab dinner and drinks and browse retail shops while they’re downtown.

On Saturday, fireworks will take place at the Isle of Wight Fairgrounds at 21311 Courthouse Highway, Windsor. The gates open at 5 p.m., and fireworks begin at 9:30 p.m. Food vendors will be on site, and visitors are encouraged to bring their own chair. Tents and grills will be prohibited.
