Edward Harvie Cox

Edward Harvie Cox, 61, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 8, 2021, at Waverly Nursing Home and Rehab Center. He was born on July 22, 1960, to the late Charles Clifton Cox Jr., and Mary Emma Eure Cox. He was predeceased by his first wife, Lisa Jeanne George Cox.

Harvie was a deep root planted in his beloved town of Wakefield. He lived on the same street his entire life, lovingly named “Fried Meat Alley” by his dad. He was a Tidewater Academy graduate and even played soccer on the school’s first team. He attended Wakefield Baptist Church for many years. Harvie retired in 2020 after 40 years of service to Dominion Energy Surry Power Station. Harvie was famous for his big smile, kind heart and amazing cooking. He was friend to many and loved living life in his “small circle.” He had a love for baseball, NASCAR, his work family, and music, especially the Grateful Dead.

He is survived by his beloved wife of seven years, Cheri Hartford Cox, of Wakefield; sons, Clifton Paul Cox (Stephanie), Charles Andrew Cox (Samantha), and Joseph Martin Cox; stepson, Michael August Hartford Howard; stepdaughters, January Wilkinson (Mecoa), and December Colton (Cordele); sister, Mary Neeson Huber, of Wakefield; brother, Charles Clifton Cox Ill (Bob), of Rhode Island; nieces, Shari O’Berry Ashmore (James), of Norfolk, and Donna Coffey (Patrick), of South Carolina; nephew, Jay O’Berry (Lynette); granddaughter, Emma Rose Cox; four step-grandsons, Deonte, Caden, Michael and Rhyon; one step-granddaughter, November; special friend, Penny Lisko; dog, Hank; and many great friends from Surry Power Station and Wakefield.
The family received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12, 2021, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.org or the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org.
