William Franklin Carter Sr.

William Franklin Carter Sr., 98, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2021. He was born in Rescue to the late Frank and Alice Carter. He retired after 24 years of service as a U.S. Air Force pilot and an air traffic controller for the U.S. Army. He was predeceased by his son, William F. Carter Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 78 years, Helen Preston Carter; daughter, Linda Farmer; a daughter-in-law, Betty Carter; two sons, Donald P. Carter and wife, Lynda, and Michael J. Carter and wife, Ann; a brother, Eugene H. Carter; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Luke’s Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is handling arrangements.
