Tornado watch issued

A tornado watch has been issued until 7 p.m. for the local area, including Isle of Wight and Surry counties.
The remnants of Hurricane Ida, which struck the Gulf Coast on Sunday, will cross the Mid-Atlantic today. Rain, strong storms and a stray tornado may be possible.
A tornado watch means conditions may be ripe for formation of a tornado. A tornado warning will be issued if one is spotted in the sky or indicated by radar.
If a tornado warning is issued for your area, get to the interior of the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
