Smithfield, Surry earn final playoff seeds

The varsity football teams for Smithfield High School and Surry County High School will enter the postseason this week after having secured the final available playoff spots in their respective regions, while the season is over for Isle of Wight Academy.
The Packers (3-6), who hold the No. 8 seed in Region 4A, will face No. 1 King’s Fork High School (8-1) in the regional quarterfinals. King’s Fork Athletics Director Randy Jessee confirmed the game will be held at King’s Fork at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12.
Meanwhile, Surry (5-5) is the No. 6 seed in Region 1B and will face No. 3 Central Lunenburg High School (7-2) in the quarterfinals. The game, which will be at Central, is also set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
Isle of Wight Academy did not qualify for the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division II state tournament. Nevertheless, the Chargers finished the regular season with a winning record of 6-4.
