A Carrollton woman died in a crash on Smiths Neck Road on Monday morning.

The crash happened at 7:27 a.m., according to a news release from the Virginia State Police. Preliminary investigation found that a 2016 Honda CRV was traveling west on Smiths Neck Road east of Reynolds Drive when it crossed into the eastbound lane and into the path of a 2013 Toyota Camry.

The driver of the Camry, 24-year-old Ariana Taylor Guajardo, died on impact, the release stated.

The driver of the Honda, Barbara Campbell, 63, of Colonial Avenue, Smithfield, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Riverside Regional Medical Center.

Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash, the release stated. Neither alcohol nor speed was a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing, and charges are pending.
