Norma Jean Foster, 93, was peacefully called from this life to her Heavenly Home on May 14, 2022.

A native of West Seneca, NY, Norma met and married the love of her life, Howard W. Foster, in 1948 and the pair commenced what was to be a loving and exciting 65-year marriage. Norma always said her highest calling in life was her faith in Christ and to provide a loving home to Howard, be a loving mother to Nelson and Karen, and an adoring grandmother to Scott and Rosie. Norma was consistently able to achieve her stated goals while Howard’s professional career enabled her family to live in New York, Illinois, California, Maryland, Virginia, Holland, India and Venezuela.

Norma chose to make Smithfield, VA her home these last 28 years. Norma was preceded in death by her steadfast, loving and devoted husband, Howard, in 2014, and by her parents, Norman and Gladys Strack. Left to cherish her memory are Norma’s son K. Nelson Foster and his wife Perri Anne Spruell of Roanoke, VA; daughter Karen Foster McFather and her husband Geoffrey S. McFather of Smithfield, VA; grandson Foster Scott McFather and his wife Rosemarie E. McFather of Newport News, VA; and, sister, Barbara F. Kobel and her husband Fred E. Kobel of West Seneca, NY.

A private family service will be conducted at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, VA. Memorial donations can be made in Norma’s name to Samaritan’s Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607. Arrangements are being handled by the R.W. Baker and Company Funeral Home of Suffolk, VA.
