A pilot walked away uninjured from a July 4 plane crash in Isle of Wight County.
According to Virginia State Police, 78-year-old Raymond Douglas Blake Jr. of Chesapeake was attempting to land his glider in a grassy field near Iron Mine Springs Road, but lost altitude due to displacement of air currents and crashed the aircraft into a pine tree thicket. A glider is an aircraft pulled behind another aircraft until released to glide on air currents.
