Kids night on tap for concert series

The Downtown Smithfield Summer Concert Series gears one night to children each year, and Friday is the night.

Clan MacCool, a highly interactive band that specializes in Irish/Scottish traditional music, “occasional piracy and constant fun,” will perform at 7 p.m. on the gazebo stage in front of The Smithfield Times office, 228 Main St. While the night is mainly for the kids, an “adult surprise” is planned, according to organizers.

Scott Hyland, lead singer, guitarist and percussionist, joined Clan MacCool in 2006. He is a retired Air Force senior noncommissioned officer who began playing music relatively late in life.
