SHS, WHS valedictorians, salutatorians honored

Smithfield High School and Windsor High School valedictorians and salutatorians were honored during commencement ceremonies last month at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton. 

WHS valedictorian was Eva Fong, daughter of William and Yan Fong of Windsor. She will attend the University of Virginia and study computer science. The salutatorian was McKenzie Powers, daughter of Michael and Heather Powers of Windsor. Powers will also attend the University of Virginia, majoring in biomedical engineering.

Windsor High graduated 123 students, with 59 recognized as honor graduates. The class earned $993,737 in scholarship money.

SHS valedictorians were Jason Cox and Vincent Ni. Cox, the son of David Cox and Joan Brauckmann of Smithfield, will attend the University of Virginia and study computer science in the School of Engineering. Ni, the son of Ji You Ni and Dan Wei Wang of Smithfield, will attend the University of Michigan, where he will major in aerospace engineering.  

The class salutatorian was Faith Wells, the daughter of Jeffrey and Andrea Wells of Carrollton.  She will attend the University of Virginia and pursue a double major in biology and interdisciplinary studies.

Smithfield High had 317 graduates, with 135 recognized as honor graduates.  The class earned $5.7 million in scholarship money.
