No injuries resulted from Tuesday’s brush fire off Scott’s Factory Road, but the cause of the blaze and the amount of damage are still under investigation.

The Smithfield Volunteer Fire Department, which responded with several other agencies to the 15000 block of the road around 5 p.m. Tuesday, said investigators were still on the scene Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was contained as of 7:22 p.m., according to a message sent to Isle of Wight County residents via the county’s IW Alert system. Multiple units from the SVFD, along with units from Rushmere’s, Carrollton’s and Suffolk’s fire departments, had responded to the scene, as had officials with the Virginia Department of Forestry.
