George Cirillo Perez Jr.

George Cirillo Perez Jr, 73, of Smithfield, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022. His family and loved ones also knew him as Dad, Big George and Pop-Pop. He was the son of the late George C. Perez, Sr and Dorothy Mulligan Perez. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sarah Margaret Perez; sons, Bradley Quebbeman (Lisa), George Perez, III (Rhonda) and Anthony Perez; grandchildren, Janine, Natalie, Madison, McKenzie, Luke, Valerie, Kaitlin and Parker; step-mother, Carlene Perez; sisters, Carlene, Lori, Linda and Kathy; brothers, Peter, Paul, Chuck, Ben and Greg. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mike McCormick.

George had a 20-year military career in the US Army Aviation branch including 1 term in the Vietnam War as part of an Assault Helicopter Company. George’s Post-Army career included an additional 20-year career as a trusted insurance broker and financial planner helping many local families with their insurance and financial needs. George was an avid outdoorsman and in particular enjoyed fishing, hunting and boating. In his retirement years George enjoyed vintage vehicle restoration and spending time with his grandchildren. George and Sarah were fond of taking long road trips with special interest in the national monuments and parks.

During his time in Smithfield, George served as past commander of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 59, and former president of Kiwanis Club. Other local club affiliations included American Legion and VFW. George was also an active member of the Benns United Methodist Church.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, 2 p.m. at Little’s Funeral Home, Smithfield, VA. with military honors. Burial will be at a later date at Albert G Horton Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family suggest memorial contributions to Benns UMC, 14571 Benns Church Blvd, Smithfield, VA 23430 or the Peninsula SPCA.
