George Hayden “Dick or Tinker” Edwards, Jr., 89, went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, October 29, 2022.  He passed peacefully with his wife and daughter at his side.

Dick was born June 23, 1933 in Surry County to the late George Hayden Edwards, Sr. and Vena Doree Edwards. In his early years he was a farmer, followed by a career as an insurance salesman for 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed his time on the farm and spending time watching his grandchildren’s activities.  He was always a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Dick is survived by his wife of 72 years, Marian Ann Thomas Edwards, the love of his life and childhood sweetheart.  They married in 1950 and had a wonderful life together.  He is also survived by his loving daughter, Diane (Bob); grandchildren Bryan Schuler (Lindsay); Kelly Patterson (Joey); great grandchildren, Cole, Scarlett, Beau, Cameron, and Caden; sisters, Jean Barcroft (Dickie, deceased), Betty Crocker (Wilson); brother, Pete Edwards (Marilyn); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Mill Swamp Baptist Church on Thursday, November 3 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends at a reception luncheon held in the Family Life Center immediately following the service. If you wish to prepare food for the family, please bring it to the church on Thursday morning.
