Regarding the “Our Forum” editorial in the Oct. 5 edition (“Newspapers make a difference”), it’s all so true. I very much appreciate our local papers. So much would never be known without them.

You also give citizens an opportunity to have their opinions published. That is a gift you do not have to give. It’s easy to tell this is not about money with our local papers and people who own and work for them. The Smithfield Times and The Tidewater News are invaluable. There are many things this community can not do without; your newspapers top my list and that of many others.
