Editorial – Schoolkids bring Christmas smiles

The talent and creativity of Isle of Wight County Schools students never ceases to impress us. Sharing their accomplishments in our newspaper each week is a privilege.

Westside Elementary School fifth graders Kennedy Humphrey, Amiyah McCullough and Asia Stallings delighted parents and classmates at the school’s annual Christmas program last week with their adaptation of the classic “Twelves Days of Christmas.” We share the lyrics here in wishing our readers a very merry Christmas.

 

On the first day of school my teacher gave to me:

a book for me to read.

 

On the second day of school my teacher gave to me:

2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the third day of school my teacher gave to me:

3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the fourth day of school my teacher gave to me:

4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the fifth day of school my teacher gave to me:

5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the sixth day of school my teacher gave to me:

6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs, glue sticks and a book for me to read.

 

On the seventh day of school my teacher gave to me:

7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the eighth day of school my teacher gave to me:

8 pop Quizizz, 7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the ninth day of school my teacher gave to me:

9 colored pencils, 8 pop Quizizz, 7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the 10th day of school my teacher gave to me:

10 worksheets, 9 colored pencils, 8 pop Quizizz, 7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the 11th day of school my teacher gave to me:

11 odd numbers, 10 worksheets, 9 colored pencils, 8 pop Quizizz, 7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs and a book for me to read.

 

On the 12th day of school my teacher gave to me:

12 comic books, 11 odd numbers, 10 worksheets, 9 colored pencils, 8 pop Quizizz, 7 straight A’s, 6 kids playing, 5 golden swings, 4 blue notebooks, 3 ink pens, 2 choir clubs, and a book for me to read.
