The Isle of Wight County School Board recently honored David Wooten of Windsor High and Noah Harris of Smithfield High as Seniors of the Month for December.

From October through May, the School Board recognizes a Senior of the Month from each high school. The honorees each receive a $500 scholarship made possible through donations from the school division’s business partners.

Wooten was described as one who “strives for excellence in his classes and works to inspire those around him,” “never has an unkind word to say about his peers” and “will volunteer to help others without a second thought.”

He also “has overcome many obstacles and has chosen to continually look on the bright side … and.is willing to stand his ground on issues that may not be deemed popular and takes class discussion and activities seriously.”

Wooten plans to attend a four-year college to obtain a bachelor’s degree in psychology and ultimately become a licensed psychiatrist.

Harris is an active volunteer in the community, including at Studio 17 as a mentor to younger dancers. She also volunteers at her church as a youth leader and teacher.

Harris is Smithfield High’s Bayport representative and was described as “an excellent role model for her peers here in the building” who “always has a smile on her face and does not hesitate to help her classmates or teachers when called upon.

Harris plans to attend either Liberty University or Bowie State University after graduation and major in business.
