A New Year’s Day fire destroyed a house on Brewers Neck Boulevard.
According to the Carrollton and Smithfield volunteer fire departments, units from both stations arrived on-scene 43 minutes after midnight on Jan. 1 to find a one-story home with smoke and heavy fire showing through the roof.
Crews were pulled out of the interior due to roof collapse and one firefighter was treated and released on-scene after sustaining a minor injury. Crews operated for six hours and a demolition contractor was called to assist with removing walls for crews to extinguish hot spots.
According to Carrollton VFD Chief Tim Nunez, the house is a total loss. The cause of the fire remained unknown as of Jan. 2.
The home’s occupants weren’t home at the time of the blaze. According to Nunez, they have declined Red Cross assistance and are staying with family.
