The death of a Smithfield man whose body was found in an abandoned house last fall has been ruled accidental and drug-related.

According to Smithfield Police Lt. Patrick Araojo, Virginia’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has filed a report listing “complications of acute combined ethanol and cocaine use” and “chronic substance abuse” as 40-year-old Leondus Holloman’s cause of death.

An autopsy showed no evidence of any injury and the investigation has been closed, Araojo said.

Holloman’s family had reported him missing on Oct. 11. He’d been last seen alive around 3 p.m. Oct. 4 in the 300 block of Middle Street, roughly a block away from the house where his body was found.
