The Virginia Department of Transportation will close a portion of Dews Plantation Road (Route 683) in Isle of Wight County starting March 13 to replace a bridge over Stallings Creek.

The project will include widening the one-lane bridge to two lanes and placing riprap slope protection on the western and eastern abutments.

Dews Plantation Road will be closed to through traffic 0.3 miles from Green Level Road (Route 623) and one mile from Raynor Road (Route 681) with signed detours in place. Access to existing private property and business entrances within the work zone will be maintained at all times.

Motorists heading south on Dews Plantation Road can detour around the closure by taking Stallings Creek Drive (Route 680) east, turning right onto Comet Road (Route 681), and right again to stay on Route 681 when it becomes Raynor Road. Motorists heading north on Dews Plantation Road should reverse the detour.

VDOT awarded the $1.04 million project to Bryant Structures in early 2023. The project is expected to be complete by this fall, depending on weather conditions.
