Edith Juanita “Nita” Harvey Mills, 86, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2023. Nita was a Hampton native and graduated from Hampton High School. She was a long-time member of Orcutt Baptist Church and then Smithfield Baptist, after moving to Smithfield in 1987.

She enjoyed crafts, quilting, and cross stitch and for ten years made felt Christmas ornaments with her friend, Aileen Hogge for the Christmas Shop in Manteo, North Carolina. Nita retired from Riverside Hospital in 1997.

She enjoyed trips to Nags Head with her husband Flemon and the family and walking on the beach. In more recent years, she enjoyed having lunch with high school friends and visiting with her great-grandchildren.

Nita loved, enjoyed, and was proud of her five grandchildren, David Mills (Heather) of Forest Park, Illinois, Caroline Burns (Chris) Smithfield, Dr. Aaron Mills (Ashley) of Carrollton, Sarah Mills of Yorktown, and Lucas Mills of Alexandria. She also had two great-grandchildren, Camden Burns, and Conley Burns; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad and the Smithfield police for their efforts and very thoughtful support, and the caregivers at Home Instead in Suffolk who she so enjoyed getting to know in the last year.

The family suggests donations be made in Nita’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Smithfield Baptist Church, or the Isle of Wight Rescue Squad.
