On April 29, 2023, Gwendolyn Whitley Luter, age 95, of Isle of Wight County, transitioned from this life peacefully in her sleep at home. She was born March 13, 1928 to Virginia Moses Eley and Richard Lee Whitley. She spent her life residing in Central Hill and working for Isle of Wight Academy, from where she retired with forty-three years of service.

Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband Urquhart Jackson Luter. She is survived by her son Ray Luter and daughter Dianne Wells of Windsor, VA, as well as three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Gwendolyn was the heart of her family and will be missed more than words can ever express. She will be remembered for her kindness and loving nature that was infectious to the soul.

Funeral services will be held at Meadowbrook Memorial and Cremation Gardens at 11 AM on Thursday, May 4, 2023. Visitation for family will take place thirty minutes prior to the service in the main mausoleum. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Amedisys Hospice for the care they showed Mrs. Luter.
