Letter – Democratic Party is too extreme

Editor, The Smithfield Times:

Joe Puglisi (“Proud to be Democrat,” April 26) says that as a lifelong Democrat, it is clear to him that Democrats support life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, but that is not the case for the extremists on the other side based on their actions and beliefs.

I grew up in a staunch Democratic household in the 1970s. In my opinion, radical progressivism has taken over the once great Democratic Party.

Democrats have little or no regard for unborn life. I’ll spare the graphic details, but Google “Aid to Women Center Second Trimester Abortion (13–24 weeks),” which describes a dilation and evacuation (D&E) procedure. This is something to be proud of?

For most Democrats, liberty means to do what you want, no matter how outrageous, perverse or patently absurd. Their position on almost anything and everything is the only acceptable one. Disagree and expect a barrage of name-calling: Nazi, racist, transphobic, xenophobic and, let’s not forget, extremist, just to name a few.

Thomas Jefferson once wrote, “[W]ithout virtue, happiness cannot be.” The absence of virtue is on display almost daily by the Democratic Party. However, there is plenty of virtue signaling. So many Democratic politicians and Democrats in general claim to be Christians, yet so much of what they stand for is a direct contradiction of the Bible. How will they answer to God?
