Letter – IW should cap  solar farms now

Editor, The Smithfield Times:

Regarding Isle of Wight County supervisors having postponed voting on a proposed ordinance that would impose a near moratorium on solar farms, I don’t understand the delay on this ordinance.

I have been to several of these solar farm meetings. These farms have been allowed to run over top of our county. Our roads are being destroyed. I have been nearly put in the ditch by these trucks.

Six solar farms have already been approved, and other applications are pending. Mr. Dick Grice is the only supervisor who seems to understand we cannot wait to enact these rules. We might as well do nothing. Close the barn door after the horses are out? I urge the supervisors to reject the conditional use permits if this is the case.

The board has failed us citizens and continues to fail us. We demand action on this. It’s time to stop playing games. As I have said at the meetings, when is enough? How many do we need? We have plenty now.

The voters will remember this, I can assure you. Do the right thing, supervisors. We are watching!
