Carl Julian Wood, Jr., 86, of Crosland, Georgia, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2023, at his home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 17, 2023, in the chapel of Baker Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Voyles and Rev. Michael King, brother-in-law, officiating. He will be laid to rest at Crosland Baptist Church Cemetery. Dwight Watkins, Cameron Watkins, Lucas Bew, LT. Louis Palombo, Sonny Baker, and Ricky Harper, Jr. will all serve as pallbearers.

Born on April 18, 1937, in Lenox, Georgia, he was the son of the late Carl Julian Wood, Sr., and Catherine Lucille Ball Wood. He was a retired Corporate Vice President of Engineering and International Development with Smithfield Foods, Inc. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of Crosland Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Wood; and his sister, Frances Mercer.

Mr. Wood is survived by his wife, Mary Lynn Jackson Wood of Omega; children, Phyllis Robson (Bobby) of Sealy, Texas, Cynthia Harper (Ricky) of Crosland, Georgia, Angela Underwood of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Diana Zapote (Omar) of Moultrie, Georgia, Shirley Wood of Jacksonville, Florida, Alan Wood of Jacksonville, Florida, LT. Delilah Palombo (Louis) of Fort Hood, Texas, and Tyler Wood of Moultrie, Georgia; stepsons, COL. Gregory Bew (Amy) of Evans, Georgia, and Dwight Watkins (Janessa) of Falling Waters, West Virginia; siblings, Kathy Ford of Tifton; Edward Wood (Scarlet) of Tifton, Georgia, Julian Wood (Barbara) of Enigma, Georgia, Paulette Blanchett (Terrell) of Alapaha, Georgia, Martha King (Michael) of Tifton, Georgia, Douglas Wood (Rhonda) of Tifton, Georgia, Ruth Wood of Tifton, Georgia, Steve Wood (Suzie) of Tifton, Georgia; grandchildren, Jessica Robson, Victoria Robson, Addrienne VanOver, Ashley Preacher, Jason Beatty, Ricky Harper, Jr., Lindsey Purvis, Haley Rae Bew, Lucas Wade Bew, Cameron Watkins, Harper Watkins, Setsuna Zapote, Xavi Zapote, and Zoe Zapote; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to William Brown and Floyd Spradley for their friendship and assistance during Carl’s illness.
