The National Weather Service has issued a tornado warning for Smithfield through 5 p.m.

According to the NWS, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Smithfield moving east at 25 mph.

The storm is expected to pass through the village of Rescue around 4:50 p.m.

Move to an interior room in the lowest level of a building or a basement, the NWS states.
