Smithfield, Windsor, Isle of Wight, Surry hold commencements

Smithfield and Windsor high schools held commencement ceremonies on June 15 at Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton.

Smithfield High had 324 graduates, 142 recognized as honor graduates. Windsor High graduated 132 students with 16 recognized as honor graduates.

Surry County High School graduated 55 seniors on June 10 at Luther Porter Jackson Middle School. Isle of Wight Academy graduated over 48 seniors on May 26 at the school’s gymnasium.

Ayden Shannon, son of Shawn and Amanda Shannon of Smithfield, was named Smithfield High’s valedictorian. Lia Corning, daughter of Bryan and Keiko Corning of Carrollton, was named salutatorian.

Shannon will attend Princeton University this fall. Corning plans to attend Virginia Tech this fall, where she will major in neuroscience.

Bryce Fowler, son of Chad and Dana Fowler of Suffolk, was named Windsor High’s valedictorian. Kenneth Branch, son of Paul and Julie Branch of Windsor, was named salutatorian.

Fowler plans to major in English at Hampden Sydney College and eventually attend law school. 

Branch plans to major in mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech.

At Surry, Asia Mona Wilson was named valedictorian and Lucille “Lucy” Jane Bailey was named salutatorian.

At Isle of Wight Academy, Elizabeth McDermott was named valedictorian and Claire Askew was named salutatorian.
