Isle of Wight under severe thunderstorm warning through 3 p.m., tornado watch through 7 p.m.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning through 3 p.m. and a tornado watch through 7 p.m. for Isle of Wight County.

At 2:12 p.m., radar detected a severe thunderstorm near Franklin moving northeast at 25 mph. The storm could damage trees and power lines.

The NWS is forecasting a 60% chance of severe thunderstorms reaching Smithfield, mainly before 4 p.m., which could bring large hail, damaging winds and heavy rain to the area.
